Eating and drinking in the Honolulu/Waikiki area can be pretty expensive…okay, VERY expensive! The good news is that by scouting the best deals for Happy Hours it is possible to get your fill of eat and drink without breaking the bank. Now there is no excuse for missing the gorgeous sunsets or taking advantage of all Hawaii has to offer. Here are some of our favorites:
1) Moose McGillycuddy’s – 310 Lewers Street Honolulu. The daily Happy Hour is from 4pm – 7pm and they have $3 draft, wells, wine and $4 premium pours. Looking for food? The Moose also has nightly food specials as well, like $2.95 Tacolicious Tuesdays and $6.95 Burger Wednesday. The Moose offers a nice, casual atmosphere along with great food and drink options.
NOT TO MISS: Early Happy Hour – from 11am – 4pm where the Moose Mai Tais are $3. These are some of the biggest and strongest Happy Hour Mai Tais we have found in Waikiki! Moose breakfast coupons – Check out the tourist guide “This Week Oahu” to find great coupons, including a Buy One Get One Free breakfast at the Moose.
2) Islands Burgers -Ala Moana Center at 1450 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste 4230 Honolulu. Happy Hour is Monday – Friday from 3pm – Close in the bar area only. Island Burgers offers deals on food and drinks, including tropical drinks, enormous cheddar fries and quesadillas with cheese and green chilis for $4.95.
NOT TO MISS: Delicious, and dare I say STRONG Mai Tais with great service! Fun place for a break after a long day of shopping at Ala Moana.
3) Pearl – Ala Moana Center 1450 Ala Moana Boulevard, Honolulu. Happy Hour varies by day but typically runs until 8pm. Food specials include $7.00 Dungeness Crab Cakes and Mini Kobe Burgers. Happy Hour drink specials include $5.00 Martinis and Pearl Signature Cocktails. Pearl is a little more upscale as far as a choice for Happy Hour. This is where everyone goes to see and be seen.
NOT TO MISS: Mini Kobe Burgers – nice portion and great taste. Ahi Poke with macadamia nuts and 3 sauces is divine!
4) Yard House – 226 Lewers St. Honolulu. Happy Hour is a little early and really late here! Monday – Friday 2pm – 5:30pm and Sunday – Wednesday 10:30pm – Close. Drink prices vary from $3.50 for a pint to $10.00 for a Half Yard. Great deals on wells ($4.50) and house martinis ($6.50) as well.
NOT TO MISS: Great food deals during Happy hours! Half priced appetizers and pizzas. The Bearnaise sliders for $7.50 will melt your heart.
5) PF Changs – Two great locations, one closer to downtown Honolulu and one in the heart of Waikiki. Happy Hour runs from 3pm -6pm daily. Specials are on both Ying (drinks) and Yang (food). Drinks range from $3 for a beer to $6 for one of the specialty cocktails. Food deals are also awesome here! Starting at $3 you can get a nice fill of food choices from spring rolls to chicken lettuce wraps. Definitely a filling start to the evening.
NOT TO MISS: $7 Seared Ahi Tuna. They do it up right! The salt and pepper calamari at $6 is hard to beat.
6) Harbor Pub and Pizza – So, you want to see where the locals go? This is it! A cross between a marina bar and a dive bar, the place manages to have a certain, umm…ambiance nonetheless. Happy hour is from 4pm – 7pm with AWESOME $3.75 Mai Tais. No real food specials for Happy Hour, but they do have good pizza at reasonable prices.
NOT TO MISS: Friday Fireworks of course! Hit Happy Hour first, then just step outside into the marina parking lot for which has new car park paint the best view of Aloha Friday Fireworks!
7) Amuse Wine Bar – 1250 Kapiolani Blvd., 2nd Floor Honolulu. Happy Hour food specials are Monday to Friday 5pm – 8pm. All appetizer choices are only $5 each. Asian sliders, vegetable spring rolls and STAGE frittes complement the wine nicely. This is a more upscale happy hour where you purchase a wine card and taste samplings of any wine on tap!
NOT TO MISS: Monday and Wednesday get a $50 wine card for only $30! For food, as odd as it might sound, the grilled cheese sandwich of house made French bread, Danish Havarti cheese and truffle essence is out of this world!
8) Top of Waikiki – 2270 Kalakaua Ave. Honolulu. Another Happy Hour leaning more toward the upscale. This one has a view to die for though! The bar rotates a full 360 degrees every hour giving amazing views of all of Oahu. Getting there at the right time gets you the best sunset seat in the house. Happy hour is daily from 5pm – 7pm and 9pm to 11pm with $4 Skyy vodka martinis, $4 drafts and house wine and $7 pupu selection.
NOT TO MISS: The view, try the early happy hour for the best seats.
Cheers and may every hour be Happy Hour while you’re in Hawaii!
